Legal Question in Employment Law in Maine

Seeking information on employee rights.

Is there protection for employees, in cases where the employer is asking the employee to do something illegal? I am being asked to undervalue products we ship, and to misrepresent the contents of those shipments, going to a company in Turkey and Cyprus. This customer is avoiding import taxes and certain customs fees which my employer is fully aware of. I wish to continue my employment, but am hoping I can legally refuse to be involved in any misrepresentation on overseas shipments. Please advise.

Re: Seeking information on employee rights.

You may be able to obtain protection under the Whistleblowers Act.I would need much more information than provided to advise you on strategy and documentation of your situation to afford the protection.

For example, are you in a Union?

Written contract?

Protected class of employee?
