Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Maryland

Do you need to list the (probable) debt amount along with the creditors names and addresses when filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. I have been calling "old" creditors listed on my credit reports and making sure that they still hold the debts and have not sold the debts but would rather not ask for specific amounts and get them back harassing me. After I file with the court don't they have to prove the amount of debt anyway? Thanks

The best way to review your current debts is to obtain a current credit report, with addresses from all three credit reporting agencies. There are some web sites that allow you to obtain one report with all 3 credit reporting agencies listed. The most important thing is to list the creditors, names and addresses, the amounts due are not as important. You may not get correct information by calling the creditors, they may not have information in their records of whether the debt was sold and/or to whom.
