Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland

Arthur wrote to his sister Mary: If you will name your next child after me, I will give the child $10,000 when he reaches 21 years of age. Mary wrote back saying, My husband and I are happy to accept your kind offer. When Mary's baby was born, it was a boy and he was named Arthur II.

When the boy reached 21, he asked Arthur for $10,000 and Arthur refused to pay, stating that he believed he was making a gratuitous offer when he wrote Mary 21 years before.

1. Is there an enforceable contract? Why?
