law pertaining to holding a raffle

I need to know if it is legal to hold a raffle for a fundraiser to benefit a high school class reunion/if so what do I need to do to make it legal

I do not know the specific requirements off-hand without conducting some research. However, I do know that raffels are highly regulated in Maryland and they are definately NOT "legal" if you fail to go through the proper steps. Also, there may be some other considerations relating to your raffle prize -- in particular, you need to make sure that if the raffle prize itself is protected by any type of trademark, copyright, license or other similar rights, that you have premission from the owner of those rights before you conduct your raffle (e.g. if you are going to raffle off season tickets to the Baltimore Ravens, you will need to make sure that you get permission from the Ravens).
