Legal Question in Business Law in Maryland

Solicitation Laws

I was working for a company who conducted national commercial real estate research in order to sell information to brokers. During training, I asked if we remove a contact from our call list if they ask us to. The trainer said that we didn't and I asked if this goes against solicitation and do-not-call laws. The trainer explained that many people don't identify what we're doing (asking for information about the lease, occupancy, etc) as solicitation because we're not selling anything, even though by definition it is solicitation. Because of this, they're at little risk and aren't concerned with abiding by those laws. He also explained that once a contact confirms a piece of information, such as their phone number, they are considered to have ''done business'' with the company. At that point, their name is given to the sales department who can call them as often as they like, because of the business that was supposedly conducted. This all sounded very suspicious to me and I asked more questions about it throughout the week. At the end of the first week of training they fired me, saying that they didn't feel like I had the commitment to the company that they wanted in an employee. Is this type of calling legal?

Re: Solicitation Laws

Maybe, maybe not, but until an allegedly abused "callee" files suit against the company for its misleading tactics, we are unlikely to know for sure.
