Legal Question in Technology Law in Maryland

protecting a new software

I've designed a new Point of Sales software and I have a real concern that my first client is going to try and resell it to others around the country. What is the best course of action i can take to protect the software? And how can i properly set up a leasing agreement with client?

Re: protecting a new software

You should register your copyright in the software, and you may also want to review it with a patent attorney to see if it is patentable. You should also enter into an appropriate license agreement with your client. You should have an attorney advise you on these matters.

Re: protecting a new software

The software should be reviewed with a view toward possible copyright registration. Formation of a business entity and a software licensing contract should be considered and this requires careful review of a number of business law, tax law, and technology law variables. An experienced business/tax/technology attorney should be able to handle this under MD law.
