Legal Question in Constitutional Law in Maryland

opening someone else's mail

I was in the process of moving out of my old place and my landlord came in before I was finished and opened some of my mail, and then proceeded to take it with him. Is there anything I can do about this?

Re: opening someone else's mail

One thing you can do is file a complaint with the postmaster. Look online at the post office site or go to your local post office to file a complaint. www.usps.com. Arguably, taking someone's mail and opening it up is a violation of the postal regulations. Also, you can also file a complaint with the police department. Both things can be done together. Of course, a third option, which is not exclusive, is to request in writing the return of your mail and then file a lawsuit for any damages you may have suffered as a result. Punitive damages may also be a possibility.
