Legal Question in Consumer Law in Maryland

Hello,

I have a question. I have my car financed through Prestige Financial in Salt Lake City Utah. These are the worst people. First off, they do not offer an grace period and I understand that. My car note is due on the 15th of the month. I try to make my payment on the 15th of the month but some months I have to pay a few days late. I have never been more than a week or two late on my car note. They call me 5 and 6 times a day at my home. They are very rude and disrespectful. It has gone beyond harassment. Now they want to come and take my car. When I ask them why, the response is "we want our property back." Can they repo my car? I live in Maryland and they are in Utah. I know they have contacts here in Maryland to do the repoing from the. Please help me.

Thanks,

Mrs. Valerie Foote

Valerie, it depends on the terms of your financing. Probably, the financing documents state that if you are late, then you have defaulted on the loan, and they have the right to recover the vehicle. In all likelihood they CAN repo your car. You owe them money and have shown an inability or unwillingness in the past to pay on time -- why should they be nice? Everyone priorities their expenses -- have you?

Best of luck.*****The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.******
