Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

I have lived in Ga for 10 years. I moved from Maryland. Just got a letter in the mail from State of Maryland Central Collection Unit saying I owe over $5000.00 for mva Insurance Lapse default. The car I had when I moved was sold for scrap.I don't remember who I had insurance with because it was so long ago. I have had insurance on other cars since moving to ga. Can they suspend my licence. It says they will take legal action and garnish my income tax if I don't pay. It also says it will report to my credit. Not sure what to do. This does not seem right to me.

The so called lapse in insurance probably occurred when you failed to turn in the license plates when you moved or sold the car. The limitations period MAY have expired in your case. Before doing anything, confirm the limitation period with an attorney who is experienced in dealing with insurance lapse matters.
