Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

Paying off but they say you owe more......

If you are given an amount that you owe in writing, and it specifies that after you pay that amount off your dept is clear, and you do pay off said amount, can they come back later and say oops, we made a mistake you owe us (x) amount of dollars more?

Re: Paying off but they say you owe more......

That depends on exactly what was said to you in writing, as well as the facts and circumstances surrounding the loan at the time that the writing was issued. You will need to provide an attorney with further details in order to obtain a clear answer to your question. (legal doctrines such as payment, waiver, accord & satisfaction, all may work in your favor depending upon facts).
