Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

I was recently in a wedding. While planning the shower I said that I would arrange and pay for a belly dancer. I told the Maid of Honor that I would do this the Thursday before the shower. The Maid of Honor (MOH) then said that she would take care of it on the Tuesday before the shower. She then sent me a text saying that she couldn't cover the entire cost by herself and she would need at least $100 from me on Saturday-the day of the shower. I gave her $150. The MOH is now trying to sue me for the remaining $150. what are my options?

You can pay or wait for a possible lawsuit.

There are several possible defenses, including that it was a proposed gift and not a contract. She relieved you from any alleged contractual obligation when she said you would take care it.

If she does sue, it will be in small claims court, and it will be on a work day. So, if you are an hourly rate or even a salaried worker, you have to take one of your leave days or lose money for at least a 1/2 day to sit in a court room for hours. Is that lost time worth the fight? Is there a principle issue?
