Is service required to be in person to the defendant for an oral exam or is service to a responsible family member at the same address adequate?

In Maryland, service of process may be made at the defendant's residence upon family members or other persons of suitable age & discretion. Note that once a defendant is properly served in a case other paperwork can usually be served by first-class mail.
