Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

2nd degree assault , took jury trial

I am the defendant for 2nd degree assault case. I was in district court today without a lawyer, judge denied Postponement, I took a jury trial. Prosecution has a witness. Can I now avoid going to trial? Can I try to reach a plea with the DA? Can I have it go back to District court?

Jury trials are held in Circuit Court. Without knowing the details of your case I cannot discuss whether a plea is even relevant. Contact me to discuss your case.

You cannot go back to district court, you are stuck in circuit court. But the best thing you can do is GET A LAWYER! A lawyer would work for you and will know all the legal rules and statutes that you don't know. If you cannot afford one, that's what the PD is for!

you need a lawyer. If you can't afford one, you need to contact the Public Defenders Office. The prosecutor may still offer you a plea, but how can you make the decision about whether that is a good idea withou proper representation? You should contact someone immediately.
