Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Self Defense

On a certain date I was in a night club in Ocean City, MD acompanied by my wife. My wife was sitting on a pier and A man put his hand on her head, she gave him a dirty look. The man pulled his hand back and then struck her in the back of the head. I asked the man why he had struck my wife and he replied with ''What are you going to do about it (P^$$*)?'' her then pushed me and at this point he had my path blocked. He pulled back his hands as to get ready to push me again, at that point I struck him in the side of the head knocking him down. We were seperated by several people and the man tried to get past a very recent aquaintance of mine to get to me. The man was then struck by my aquaintance. Several people asked why I had hit him and some people took it opon themselves to hit him. Now he states that I attacked him, never hit my wife, caused $2500 in damage to his face, and that I'm the only person that hit him. My wife is worried that our case will be lost and I'm unsure myself. Do I have anything to worry about? Does any law exist that covers me to defend my wife and/or myself?

Re: Self Defense

Maryland recognizes the defense of self defense, also extending that defense to your wife. However, you never know what a Judge will do, or how he will view your testimony. For that reason you should hire a lawyer.
