Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

fire a lawyer

My son is in jail. He hired a lawyer and paid him his asking fee but the lawyer has failed to appear in court to defend him three times. The third time the judge suggested that he fire the lawyer and get in touch with the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission. The judge asked the Public Defender to interview my son, but the Public Defender said she could not because he presently had counsel. I am trying to help him with this procedure. Can you please help me, thank you

Re: fire a lawyer

Usually the public defender will not take a case where there is private counsel. You should consider hiring another attorney and then getting your money back from the other guy.
