Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Do we need a lawyer?

My son and a friend were arrested for destruction of property... The friend did the actual damage... Some inebriated girls said one of the boys (my son) was wearing a striped shirt... The police kept the two boys (my son is 18) in a cell for most of the day... and eventually released them - a trial is pending in July. My son's Report says ''the Defendant was released on personal recognizance due to a finding of no probable cause for the warrantless arrest''... Should we retain a lawyer?

You should retain a lawyer. The comment you refer to is by the commissioner, not the police, and is not admissible in court. A lawyer should be able to protect your son from having a criminal conviction the rest of his life.
