Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

URINATIOn

Need some help. Last night, around 11pm, i was given a citation for ''urinating in public at public park''

Penalty: 1,000 dollars or 6 months.

The officer himself said all i needed to do was showup and that the fine wouldn't be 1,000 dollars. But even half of that is steep. I'm broke and can't afford a lawyer. Is there a way i can ask for community service instead??

ticket also says in violation of COMAR/ Agency Code,

Document/article: 32

Section: 179

Re: URINATIOn

First the officer must show up to court in order to the court to even find you guilty. Second, it is rare the court would impose such a stiff fine especially if this is the first offense. Explain to the court your circumstances. Even if a find is imposed there is usually an opportunity in most jurisdiction in Maryland to set up a payment plan.
