Music Producer Meeting a Major Management Company in New York

I got my friend a meeting with a major management company, and we really don't know what to expect, except them them listening to his material and asking general questions. What key details should we pay attention to when they talk to us? And what are some do's and don't s of meeting and talking with such industry folk?

Re: Music Producer Meeting a Major Management Company in New York

My background is I ran an indeendent label for many years before becoming an attorney, and now continue to work with many top artists as part of my practice.

To be honest with you it really varies, deending on the Co. you're meeting with... Overall, the product will be screened, listened to, and you may go from getting an offer of a demo deal on the spot, to the commencement of talks on signing the artist with no real deiscussion of a demo deal...

the more important issues lie in the fact that simply getting signed, or getting a demo deal in no way means there will be any success, nor that the company will actually put any money behind any release, all of which are more important...

I would suggest depending on how this meeting goes, your group seek a competent attorney in this area.
