Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Is annulment possible in Md?

I got married in a civil ceremony in MD in May, 2006. I had many misgivings at the time and realized very soon afterwards that it was a big mistake due to

my husbands continued drinking and money mismanagement. He moved

into my townhome and I made him move out 5 weeks ago after another of his drinking episodes. We have no property,

no children. Do I have to wait

two years for a divorce after a

two month marriage? I knew it was a mistake before I married him. Please advise.

One year voluntary separation is an option you do not mention and should consider. You should discuss your legal needs with an attorney.

Since you are already separated, you can file now for a limited divorce - this will establish a date for the separation and if the divorce is not contested, only one year is needed - not two (the limited divorce complaint can be amended for absolute divorce once you are separated for a year and a day). However, there may be other grounds present NOW that would require NO waiting period. We can outline these during a consultation.
