Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Name change for baby

My son just found out through a paternity test that he is not the biological father of his girlfriend's 5-month-old baby. The baby has my son's last name. How can he petition to get the baby's name changed to the mother's last name? Are there any legal issues my son could face if the baby retains his current name?

Re: Name change for baby

If your son isn't adjudicated in a court proceeding to be the father, than he has no obligations to the child irrespective of the child's name.
