Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Child Support

Is there a way to get rid of child support obligations that are in arrears from your credit report? That is without having to pay the entire amount of the arearages?

Re: Child Support

You asked about removing child support from a credit report.

There is NO WAY to remove child support arearage debt from your obligations or a credit history. In fact, the public takes child support so seriously that the debt will never be removed. A person cannot even discharge child support obligations in bamkruptcy. Eventually the debt accrual may amount to criminal charges. Whereas most consumer debts have a statute of limitations and must be removed from credit reports after 7 years, child support obligations do not have a limitation and will not "age off" of a credit report.

Shame on you for not paying your due obligations to your child. Be an adult and figure out how to pay. If you pay the obligations off then they entries should "age off" of your credit reports in 7 years.

Regards,

Roger
