Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

child support/custody

what do I do when the absent father is behind $ 8,000 in child support, I have a case with Virginia and West Virginia Child Support. It seems they are not collecting what is owed. What do I do?

My son is in foster care of Frederick County MD. the Judge and DSS made a terrrible mistake, and caused my son harm. I beg them not to put him with my brother and his wife, I knew my son would get worse, and ended up back into foster care. I have been trying five years to get him home, but no luck, I can't afford an attorney, what do I do? I was appointed by the courts an attorney, but she could do better.

Re: child support/custody

You will have to work with your court-appointed attorney or find another one who will take your case without charge. If the absent father is employed and drawing a paycheck, you need to get an earnings withholding order that requires the employer to withhold enough to cover both the ongoing payment and something each pay period to work off the arrearage. You can also get the arrearage converted into a money judgment and then try to attach any property (home, bank account, etc) that the father has to satisfy the judgment. Also, if your son is receiving public assistance through DSS, they should be proactive in trying to collect the support on your behalf.
