Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

My daughter is 4 years old and has my last name not her fathers. He wants to change it to his but i don't. He was not there during my pregnancy or her birth so obviously i gave her my last name. Is there anything i can do to keep her last name mine?

Because your daughter is a minor, both parents have to consent to change her name. Simply object. He will have to make an appearance in court to challenge the objection and the judge will then determine whether the name change will go through. The child is not obligated to carry the father's name.
