Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Marital Rights

Prior to the knowledge that my husband had filed for divorce I agreed to sell our house to his sister. This came after many threats and pressure from him that he would throw me and my children out of the house if I didnot go along with his plan. He stated he need to cash out the equity to pay his bad debts. He also verbally stated that he would give me 10,000 to relocate somewhere else if I chose to since our marriage was not working. In August He sold the house to her and received 83,000 equity. I got nothing . Now he is bringing women in the same house we both are living in and cohabiting with them above the room where I sleep It is painful for me to expereince this disrepect. He has told me if I can't take it then get out! . He is now trying to get his sister to evict me and my children. They are not his children.

he is of Nigerian descent and I feel very strongly with some proof that he married me under false pretense.

I feel utterly helpless and powerless now that he has manipulated the house from under me. I have no place to go immediately..........................

Re: Marital Rights

At this point, your only recourse is to file a divorce complaint, in which you would seek immediate spousal support and a division of the marital assets, which, from your question, appear to be limited to the money his sister gave him for the house. You should seek legal assistance immediately. If you are without income, the Prince George's County Bar Association has a pro bono program that will offer you free legal assistance.

Re: Marital Rights

You need to acquire the service of an attorney. Without my knowing all the facts, your course of action cannot be known. Obviously you need to file for a divorce and several grounds may be present. In your complaint of divorce you will be seeking your share of the marital assets. The sale of the house may or may not be legally concluded. You may be entitled to alimony. Other matters may also be present of which you are unaware.

I can be reached at (410) 799-9002 or by return e-mail. You do not have to tolerate his unacceptable behavior.
