Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I was seved with amotion to modify child custodya and child support. I failed to file a responsive pleading, I just found out I had to. My court date is set for this Friday. Do I ask for a continuance or prepare to argue my case? My ex is asking for residential custody stemming from an altercation my son and I had and I put him out over.

You would be better served by hiring an attorney to address this because a time requirement has already lapsed. Presentation through an attorney will have an effect that shows you take the matter seriously. As to the underlying matter of modification, you should discuss this with an attorney as early as possible as there is a chance that a continuance would not be granted so this will enable better representation with a non-responsive hearing (i.e., limited to countering the matters as brought forth by the plaintiff.) Based on your zip code I believe your case is docketed in Prince Georges county and I am available to represent you in that jurisdiction.
