Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I do not have many specifics yet but my sister called me and told me that the man she has been living/working with for the last 10+ years hit her in front of their employees. She was shocked and hit him back then got in her car and left. Is there anything my sister can do, or are more specifics needed.

Theoretically your sister could charge him with assault and file a complaint with the police, but unless she was really injured, I doubt the police would get involved, especially since it seems it was mutual. She could also file a civil protection order asking the court to have him removed from the residence and stay away from her, even at work, if that's what she wants. To do this, she can go to the MD District Court or circuit court in her county, go to the clerk's office, and they will provide her with the necessary forms.
