Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Visitation for a child I dont know...

An ex gf who was pregnant told me the child was not mine. I was hurt, but I left it alone and believed her. 7 years later I randomly and by complete accident run across my exes webpage with pictures of a 7 year old little girl with a face identical to mine. I have tried contacting her thru the webpage and messages, she reads them and will not respond. I am married with two other daughters, I have though hard and long and decide I can not just forget this child exists. I want to know her and miss no more of her life than I already have... if her mother wont cooperate, what can I, and what should I do to be in this childs life?

Re: Visitation for a child I dont know...

First, you will have to establish through a paternity action that the child is indeed yours. This is done through dna testing. You would have to file a petition to establish paternity in the circuit court in your county and request that the testing be done. This will be at your expense. Of course, if the mother in the face of this concedes your fatherhood, then you won't have to go through that. If you can prove your paternity, then you would be entitled to seek visitation, but you could also become responsible for child support.
