Call my Doctor?

Can my employer call my doctor to verify an appointment?

Not without your permission. That is a violation of privacy and possibly of medical privacy laws under the ADA and HIPAA among others. Of course, if the employer asks for proof of your appointment to verify an absence or request for leave and you refuse to provide it, then the employer might have grounds to take disciplinary action up to and including discharge depending on their policies and the particular facts of the case.
