Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

I worked for a company for 16 years and then left for another job for about 1 1/2 yrs. I went back to work for this company Jan 3. I terminated my employment Jan 7 due to the intolerable work environment. The company still owes me for the 1 week I worked, but they don't seem to want to pay me. I sent an e-mail to the company manager asking when I could expect to receive my pay, but they refuse to answer my e-mail. What do I need to do next? I just want the pay that is due me. Thanks

Very simple. Send a pre-paid certified letter, return receipt requested, that demands the money and states that if it is not received in 10 business days, you take further legal action. If they have not paid you in the 10 business days (a reasonable period of time), file a lawsuit against the company for breach of contract in the Magistrate Court in which the company is located. They will likely pay you then. If not, go through with the Court proceeding and let the chips fall where they may. Your chances of success are greater in Court if you hire a lawyer to represent you.

Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.******
