Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

hi, i have worked as a merchandiser for mc cormicks for well over 20 years now. about 2 weeks ago i got a letter from the company saying we will be having an important meeting but didn't really clearly state the purpose of the meeting. it just said its about some policy changes. when i got to the meeting, we were called one by one in to a room saying each one of us is only gonna be working for them until february the 15th and they gave us paper to sign and they said we were gonna get our severance pay. i mean, this is so sudden for me. this is my main source of income. why didn't they let us know that this is gonna be the topic of the meeting. i could have prepared myself mentally for all the necessary questions. they said that their merchandising account is gonna be handled by some other company and its up to them if they're gonna continue our employment(with the new company of course). is there any justice here? i mean was i robbed of some employment rights i supposed to have? do i have any case here? thanks in advance for the answers.

If you signed that paper they handed you, it is likely you signed away your rights to sue. Did you read it? If not, did you obtain a copy?
