Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Maryland

I pay to park in a city lot, the Waxter Center. Unfortunately yesterday, I forgot to display my permit on my dashboard. I returned to the lot at the end of my work day and didn't see my car, it was towed! A private towing co. came into the lot and towed my car. I had to pay $300 to get my car back and ride with the tower, who was nasty, back to the impound lot. This can't be legal...?

It's not moral, but it's likely legal. The real answer depends on the terms of your parking arrangement, probably written on the back of your permit.
