Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Maryland

Hello, my baby was born 3 months early 23 weeks. I understand it's a lot that comes with preemies and their medical issues. My question is how soon should your baby be treated with steroids to. Help with lungs? I was told immediately. My baby struggled on oscillator and ventilator days doctors didn't believe she would make it.. On the 11 th day we had a family meeting and I brought a lot of supporting family with me and of course a lot of negative preemie news.. My sister asked the Dr have you started her on steroids yet? dr said no we will see how she does gettng off the ventilator and oscillator first. My family was very upsetting and said the baby is miserable and struggling she needs some help with her lungs. The next day the dr called me and said we would like to start your daughter on steroids to help her out. I believe the residents and drs made several bad calls on my baby not thinking she was going to make it. One dr said say your prayers because the look of things she might not be here very long. Very hurtful and unprofessional. This was 10 months ago my daughter finally made it home last week. 10 medications a feeding tube and on oxygen. Please help me. Thank you

Any baby born at 23 weeks is going to have a difficult time. Whether the infant's difficulties are the result of medical negligence will require a detailed analysis of the baby's and your medical/birth records.

I see that you are located in Owings Mill, Md. The easiest way for us to discuss this possible claim would be to schedule a phone appointment for a convenient time this week.

May I suggest that you send me an email at [email protected], suggesting a time to speak as early as this afternoon...When we speak I can obtain your contact info, the name of the hospital involved, the name(s) of your primary doctors, and the name of your child.

Last Monday I responded to your inquiry with a request that you call me on our toll free number to schedule a phone appointment to further discuss you and your child's possible claims. Obviously we need additional information in order to have the case evaluated by medical experts (at no expense to you).

Unfortunately, we did not hear from you at all last week. It may be that you have engaged other counsel to investigate this matter on the family's behalf. If so, and if they conclude you do NOT have a case I surely hope that you will allow us to give you a free second opinion.

My contact information is found in my web site: www.walterlaake.com.

the toll free # is: 1-866-378-6160.

the email address is: [email protected]

the local number is 301-220-2200

I look forward to hearing from you soon especially if you are not presently represented by an attorney. YOU ONLY HAVE 180 DAYS TO PUT THE OWNER OF THE HOSPITAL ON NOTICE IF IT IS A MUNICIPAL OR COUNTY OWNED/RUN HOSPITAL
