wondering about bankruptcy

I am in the army and just got orders to a place that will require me to obtain a top secret security clearence, I had some trouble when I had my first child about 4 years ago and had some credit problem that are still haunting me, I was wondering if I claim bankruptcy, will I be able to get a clearence, if not what can I do to make sure, I don't get denied. thank you

Your bankruptcy may prevent you from getting a TS clearance. It will definitely be what the adjudicators refer to as an "issue." But a heavy debt load alone will be an issue, as well. You need to make the decision that is best for your family. But the best approach on your clearance application is full disclosure. If you try to conceal anything, you definitely will not get a clearance.
