Late Payments

My huswband and I are now renting an apartment. Last year in May we received a ledger stating that we had a credit amount in our account of ~$500. Last month we received a ledger that stated we now money, beacuse my hubsand amused that we had a credit per the previous ledger and paid $300 less. HELP

Your obligation to pay rent is controlled by your lease, not by the correspondence telling you that you had a credit. I suggest that you explain the circumstances to your landlord and see if a repayment plan can be worked out. Unfortunately, you owe the full amount of the rent that was due under your lease.
