Legal Question in Securities Law in Maryland

Statute of Limitations

Is there a statute of limitations on filing a case against a

stock broker for making inappropriate transactions in my

brockerage account which, I believe cost me one to two

million dollars. The transactions go back to about 1997.

Re: Statute of Limitations

If you bring the case in a federal or state court, you may have a statute of limitations problem; depending on the local rules. If you commence an arbitration before the NASD, there is a general rule that controversies more than six years old may not qualify for arbitration in that forum.

If you have claims dating back to 1997, you should seriously address them now.

Good luck.

Re: Statute of Limitations

The statute in MD is 3 years (the shorter of the purchase date or one year from discovery of the fraud). The statute of limitations may not apply in arbitration. Please call me at 954 961-0096 to discuss. There is no fee or obligation to talk about it with you.
