survirvor benefits for child

ex husband died 11-02, was with him for 17 yrs only married for 3years. why can't my minor daughter collect survivor benefits? and her biological father died 4-04 and she can't recieve his benefits either?? or so I am told.

I don't have enough info about the parties. There are many factors that effect survivors' benefits and the best place to ask is your local SSA office. Someone there should be able to explain it and they are obligated to do so. Get the reasons in writing, too.
