Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

driving with a suspended license

I missed a court date because I forgot to change my address w/ the MVA. The original ticket had my new address on it and the officer said that the notice would to go my new address. I never received it and therefore missed my court date. I then went thru a toll both and had to show my license. I found out it was suspended...and the officer gave me the ticket for driving w/ a suspended license. My question is what kind of fine and/or jail time can I get. Also will I have a criminal record if convicted?

Re: driving with a suspended license

The maximum jailtime for this kind of charge is 60 days in jail and a $500 fine. Depending on your driving record, and which county your case is in, you could get all or none of that.

You should definitely hire an attorney to handle the case, however, because it sounds like you could beat the charge.
