Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

Son caught driving on a suspended provishional licencein Montgomery County

My son got a ticket in MD for speeding 8 months ago. He went to court and was found guilty. He is 20 and on his provisional license. With a provisional license in the state of MD if you receive any driving conviction you need to go to a driving improvement course. He never did, and his license was suspended. He was told by the officer that he had been driving for 2mo with the suspended license. He got 2 tickets. 1 ticket for driving on a suspended license and for driving with a suspend license on a provisional. Both tickets marked MP ''must appear'' for court. The officer took his license, His defense is he was never notified by the MVA or anyone that he had to take the drivers improvement course. I have checked with the Sheriffs office and I was told the MVA sent out at least 2 notices to our old address. We moved 11 mo. ago and he never changed the address on his license. He has since taken the driver improvement course. My son tells me the MVA unsuspended his licence. He just recieved a court date and wondering what can hapen to him. On both tickets it reads Article:TASec:16Sub-Sec:303 and on one reads SUSPENDED UNDER (17-106, 26-204, 26-206, 27-103). He isn't concerned but as parents we are what are the facts he is facing.

He is facing a maximum of 1 year in jail and $1000 fine for a first offense. Also 12 points. It is unlikely that he will successfully present the notice defense himself, so he needs a lawyer.
