Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

Tickets in maryland

When I was stopped for speeding the officer arrested me for a DUI. I requested an atty and was disregarded. The officer signed the tickets in the place where I am suppposed to sign with the word ''arrested'', but came to the jail and had me sign a temporary drivers license form. He wouldn't tell me what I was being charged with. I never saw the tickets until I went to see the commissioner. Doesn't the officer have to allow me to sign the tickets and see what I am being charged with?

You are not entitled to an attorney at the scene of your arrest. You are entitled to an attorney when you are questioned by the police AT THE POLICE STATION. The purpose of going to the commissioner is to be informed of your charges. I suggest you contact a criminal defense lawyer, like myself, to help you proceed from here. For example, if you were given a temporary license, that means you are charged with DWI, and your license will be suspended for 45 days, which means you can't drive, unless you notify the Motor Vehicle Administration within 10 days of your arrest you want a hearing on your license suspension.
