Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Maryland

My Grandmother passed away this past October. She left $2,000 to each of us grandkids. I received my check of $2,000 at the funeral. My mom said she would hold onto it for me and put it in the bank. When I recently asked my mom about the check she said it was gone, she spent it on my tuition bill. I had wanted to save the money for graduate school for when I move out and have to pay my own tuition. I feel she had no right to spend that money without my permission. Is what she did legal?

No, what she did was not legal. It was probably the smartest thing she could do with the money, but none-the-less, not legal. My advice would be to let it go this time. Your mom thinks she knows what's best for you -- let her on this one.

Best of luck.
