The petition is to enable your attorney to be paid for his/her services on your behalf. Once approved, the fee will be deducted from the benefits you've been awarded or accepted as part of a settlement. The fee is controlled by the workers' compensation law, and is essentially a percentage of the benefits you are receiving.
