Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts

Which bar association(s) does my attorney need to be a member of???

I am a partner in a Ct. partnership. My only partner is buying me out. He lives in Ct. I live in Ma. The split is an amicable one. The buy out seems cut and dry with one exception, a line of credit. We used the line to buy out a 3rd partner and to cover us when we were short. The line is in our names jointly and not in the business name. He has agreed to assume responsibility for the line. My question is: Of which state bar association(s) must my attorney be a member off? Ct. and/or Ma.

Your attorney should be familiar with CT law. My firm has members who are licensed in CT.

MA law and CT law have some significant differences. More importantly, you should have your name removed from the credit line, if at all possible upon closing of the sale.

Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions.
