My father was laid of from his job and received a severance package paying him monthly salary until September of this year. Unfortunately he passed away this month, and the severance check did not show up. Shouldn't the settlement still be paid out to next of kin? Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

It should be paid to his estate absent a provision in the severance agreement that states it is terminated upon his death.
