Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

Where to file?

I want to file a name change, but I don't know the jurisdiction.

I was attending school in MA from 9/2000-10/2001, and am now living in NJ. I was born in NJ, but had been living until 9/2000 in CA, which is where my drivers license is issued. In what state would I file?

Re: Where to file?

I believe that you would file for the name change in New Jersey. I don't see any reason against doing it here. If you would like more information, please call me at 732-545-9292.

Re: Where to file?

You can file in NJ.

I've done this before, as I'm sure many attys have. It takes a couple of months, with I believe 2 court appearances.

If you want to try to do it yourself, go to the NJ state website for help at:http://www.judiciary.state.nj.us/prose/index.htm

The form itself can be filled in and printed out via an online form. Goto: http://www.judiciary.state.nj.us/prose/namchng.pdf

Good luck.
