Privacy Violation

I booked a reservation while on board a cruise ship for a future cruise. Another passenger on the ship called the reservations desk and asked if my husband and I had booked another cruise and not only was he informed that we made another reservation, he was given the date of the reservation and booked a reservation for himself on that same date. This passenger is a family member by marriage, but it was our intention not to tell anyone about this cruise as it was to be a second honeymoon. Now we have a family member tagging along with us, and we feel this could have been prevented by the cruise sales manager keeping our reservation information private...it is my understanding that this is in fact private information. Is that correct?

I would agree that the information of your future bookings and whereabouts should be kept confidential from other passengers. However, this is probably not something you want to bring a lawsuit over.

With that said, I would call the cruise ship company and raise hell about it and demand an explaination. You might even be able to get a free cruise or offshore excursion out of it if you tell them that you'll report them to a consumer watchdog group or online consumer blogs like consumerist.com.
