shoplifting

if you are caught shoplifting, can a store go back on previovs video tapes and search for additional incidents, and can they additionally charge you if they did not actually catch you leaving the store on those prior occasions? if they can how long do they have to file charges against you from the date of you being caught? is it weeks or months?

Yes, the store can certainly go back and look at video tapes to charge you. However, the government still has to prove you guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Therefore, it depends what is on the video tapes and how far it would go towards that proof. They can go back for years up to the statute of limitation which is at least 3 years.
