what would be the maximum sentence for an adult, first time offender, who was caught vanadlizing 5 mailboxes on people's lawns with his vehicle?

I would really need more information, like the specific statutes that the person is charged under and what court it is being heard in. It is likely in a District court and he is likely charged with Malicious Destruction of Property. The maximum sentence on one count of that charge is 2.5 years in the House of Correction if in the District Court. However, it seems that there could be at least five counts as well as trespassing and other counts. If the person has no or a limited record then he is likely to receive a period of probation. However, Malicious Destruction of Property charges can be very difficult to prosecute because there is a high "intent" standard for the Commonwealth to prove. The person certainly needs to speak to an attorney.
