Legal Question in Elder Law in Massachusetts

uncle abusing grandmother

my uncle lives with my 93 yr. old grandmother. He had all her assets signed over to him, & he's blown though all her money(he doesn't have any income!). Now my grandmother called me crying saying he's always yelling at her & that she hasn't eaten because she's not allowed in the kitchen of HER home. I spoke to a friend of my uncle's & he said he thinks my uncle has mental issues & that my uncle says he's selling the house & moving to cal. & that my grandmother will have to live on the street. Can he do that?

Even though she signed everything over to him - is there anything I can do to stop him from selling the house? People have been contacted regarding the abuse(not the first time either), so hopefully she can go to a nursing home & get the care she needs, but what can I do if the house has been signed over to him under pressure? Do we have any recourse?

Re: uncle abusing grandmother

I would suggest you contact an attorney immediately. Your grandmother probably qualifies for medicaid and social security so she can be placed in a Nursing home.

You can file a petition for guardianship and conservatorship for your grandmother and file a lawsuit to recover the home from your uncle.

Do not wait, go see an attorney now.
