Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

alimony after a 12 year seperation?

my step father was married to his wife for 20 years, then seperated for 2 then he moved in with my mother. He and my mother have been together for 12 years now. He pays his wife's mortgage, car insurance, etc. She says if he asks for a divorce she will take the house, the pension, both life insurance policies and she will get alimony. He's been lazy up till now about the divorce but now he's afraid he'll be broke if he tries to divorce her. Can she really get everything and alimony? Their kids are grown when they seperated and he's been paying her mortgage, etc. all these years.

Your step-father is still legally married, and no division of marital assets has been ordered by the courts. To protect his assets, your step-father should consult with an attorney. Our office will provide a free initial consultation:
