Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I'm getting a divorce in Ma. and we have gone thru mediation and signed the papers and submitted them to our local court. Now we haven't got a date yet but can I get a lawyer now and ignore the mediation agreement and fight my spouse for half of everything?

Frankly, it is really never too late to re-evaluate your circumstances and request the right to be heard concerning an equitable division of the marital estate, alimony, and child support and custody. Whether you will do any better in a contested divorce than you have done in your mediated agreement is unknown. You may just want to take your paperwork to an attorney for a second opinion. Please feel free to contact our office at 617-357-4898 if you would like to schedule a consultation. Even if you decide that you do not want to disregard your mediated separation agreement, it may feel better to go into court with your own attorney.
